Located at the crossroad of Norodom and Sihanouk Blvds, Independent Monument marks freedom from France in 1953 by King Norodom Sihanouk.The Independent Monument was built in 1958 modeling the tower of Angkor Wat. Each year on the 7th of January, they celebrate the independent ceremony where the king comes to fire up the pedestal in the tower while many students are invited to gather around to witness the meaningful event of the country. This monument also marks as a memorial place for Cambodia devoted their lives for the glory of Kingdom of Cambodia.

These are the images that I have taken on 26th of May 2008. Unfortunately I can't manage to ask them for more information How can they do that for having Cyclo drivers with these uniforms? What are the purposes of doing such thing?
I used to see this kind of events a few times already that this kind of activities are arranged by NGO aiming to rebuild Cambodia social network or against some kind of human trafficking, smoking, violation in family and so on. If you donate your money for the NGO, you will get a chance to be on these Cyclos.
*Note: Cyclo is a kind of transportation which is broadly use by Cambodian people and foreigners. You can find it mostly in Phnom Penh. (Look at the pictures for more information)

The most important feature in Cambodia where every single tourist would have their visit here at least once if they got a chance to step in Cambodia, Grand Royal Palace always stands on the top. Touring the Grand Royal Place can give you a very good experiece. This is one of the richest place to learn about ancient Khmer empire. There are many significient stunning landmark for visiting.
The Grand Royal Palce, known to the western as Silver Pagoda, was built in 1866 in wood and expanded in 1962 by King Norodom Sihanouk. He had the floor lay with 5,329 solid silver tiles. But the most valuable is the Emerald Buddha and 90 kg golden Buddha statue decorated with 9,584 diamonds. Beside the luxurious statues, there lay a 600-meters long wall in another side of the building, which was decorated with depicting scenes of Ream Ker epic, or Ramayana. Visitors visiting Cambodia must find their time to trace out the most wonderful Royal Palace in the country which can mark the characteristic of the Cambodian culture.
It should be a good idea to get your guide with you when visiting Royal palace.
